Additional Description: One of only 188 Corvettes produced with the LS6 454/425 HP Mark IV big-block engine and one of about 50 LS6 convertibles. Offered with 33142 original miles this Sunflower Yellow convertible retains its original matching-numbers LS6 454/425 HP engine. The LS6 had first appeared in the 1970 Chevelle as that lines top engine squarely placing the SS454 at the top of the muscle-car hierarchy. As the 1970s dawned GM halted the performance advances made in recent years and wiped away Chief Engineer Zora Arkus-Duntovs plans for a 454 CI L88 replacement. In its place Arkus-Duntov substituted the LS6 for the 1971 Corvette and while slightly detuned to 425 HP it put the Corvette back on top as the most powerful Chevrolet. Fitted for the first time with high-flow aluminum heads the Corvette version of the LS6 used TRW forged-aluminum pistons forged-steel connecting rods with strong 7/16-inch bolts and a solid-lifter cam. Topping it off was a Holley 780 CFM 4-barrel carburetor on an aluminum intake manifold with transistorized ignition providing ample and reliable firepower. Produced on May 10 1971 and delivered new to a dealer in New Hampshire this 1971 Chevrolet Corvette LS6 Convertible retains its mostly original Sunflower Yellow paint and the original Saddle interior white soft top and black vinyl-covered hardtop. The original LS6 engine retains the A.I.R. emissions equipment and is backed by a Muncie M22 4-speed and 3.36:1 Positraction rear end. The engine block stamp pad and engine stamp have been affirmed by Al Grennings Classic Car Affirmation Service. Optioned with tinted glass an AM/FM radio and Goodyear Polyglas GT tires on Rally wheels this is an incredibly well-preserved Corvette kept by its previous owner for 31 years.
